Environmental Monitoring Assistant - Hants / Surrey in Hampshire

Hourly rate: £10.28  

Full Driving Licence / Able Swimmer essential

 

The role

We are looking for an Environmental Monitoring Assistant to work across the South of England. The job involves field-based data collection and sampling and office-based data processing, validation, and quality assurance. The high-quality environmental monitoring data produced is essential for the effective management of the environment.    

The field team carry out routine chemical and ecological sampling and collection of environmental data throughout Hampshire, West Sussex and parts of Surrey. This includes statutory ecological sampling of rivers and lakes, and chemical sampling of rivers, lakes and bathing waters. During the summer months, we sample water quality at numerous popular bathing beaches and also undertake fish monitoring.

Reporting to the Field Monitoring Team Leader, the successful candidates will be assisting in the delivery of this broad range of environmental monitoring.

The position involves outdoor work (in all weathers) and travelling throughout the region therefore a valid driving licence and the ability to swim is essential. The post holder may also be required to assist in some weekend work during our busy summer months on a rotational basis.

Experience/skills required

An interest in the environment with some field and/or office-based work experience. You’ll be qualified to at least GCSE standard in a relevant STEM discipline and hold a full Driving Licence. Physically fit you will be keen to work outside in all weathers and be confident around water. Must be happy to drive across parts of Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex. 

Other key requirements for this job include having excellent communication skills, proficiency in Word and Excel, being physically fit and the ability to work alone for long periods as well as part of a team.

 

Additional useful information

The role will be based in Farnham with the role being predominantly field based with travel throughout the south of England. The post requires a Full UK Driving Licence.  The candidate also needs to be able to swim.
